Mila Salazar is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and Tango DJ in the San Francisco Bay Area tango community. She has an extensive background in partner dance, trained in USISTD and trained and certified through DVIDA, and taught as a full-time staff instructor at Renaissance Ballroom, Cheryl Burke Dance and at Metronome Ballroom for 8 years, and winning a Guardian Best of the Bay award for her classes.  She DJs Traditional as well as Alternative Tango music, and has fallen deeply in love with the history and development of Argentine Tango dance and music. She has performed in the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, The Latin Show, and Noe Valley Ministry as well as having been a dance captain of the Libertango Dancers, performed as a guest member of Tango ConFusion and performed with her own group TangoFlor. Trained in San Francisco and Argentina she teaches and dances in the vibrant San Francisco Tango community with her partner Casey Young, and she is an organizer for the La Pista Tango Studio, an all Argentine Tango Studio in San Francisco. Currently she is pursuing an alternative masters degree in Dance/Movement Therapy, exploring different application areas such as using Tango to improve and delay symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease and using movement to facilitate attachment between individuals such as infants and caregivers.
